What is Sativa?
Sativa is the name given to one of the three strain types generally associated with marijuana (the others being Indica and Hybrid). Sativa is known for its cerebral and energizing effects, making it the perfect companion for social outings or creativity.
The sativa plant itself is suited to warmer climates with long summers. The plant generally grows taller than indica plants, but with much narrower leaves.
Effects of Sativa
Sativas usually produce what is referred to as a “mind high” meaning that users tend to feel the effects mentally rather than in their full bodies (as with indica).
Sativas tend to give off an energizing and anxiety-reducing effect. Due to the cerebral nature of the high, sativas are often associated with creative endeavours and productivity, rather than relaxation and lethargy.
Benefits of Sativa
Sativas boast a number of health positive properties, including:
- Mood lifting
Sativas are thought to boost cardiovascular health and support the body’s nervous system due to their antioxidant content. They may also improve metabolism, promoting healthy bowel functions.
Using a sativa-based product after consuming a meal rich in carbohydrates may also prevent sharp increases in sugar levels.
Finally, evidence has shown that sativas can be helpful in treating withdrawal symptoms in narcotic users and cigarette smokers. The effects may also extend to those addicted to other substances, such as caffeine or morphine.
